Conversations over Matcha is a series dedicated to exploring the daily rituals of friends of Maiasa within the beauty, well-being, and design industry. Join us as we step into the intimate spaces of their homes, where shared moments over matcha become a backdrop for candid discussions about routines, self-care, and the nuanced perspectives on maintaining balance in life.

Today we speak with London based photographer Thea Løvstad

Q: Tell us a little about yourself
A: I am a Norwegian photographer and eco artist, based in London.

Q: What does well-being mean to you?
A: To me, well-being means doing rituals that feel wholesome for you and support you mentally and physically. It looks different for everyone and can also change throughout life. For me it is related to eating wholesome and delicious food, exercise, doing self care in the form of facial massage and aromatherapy as well as taking time for stillness.

Q: What is your favourite way to start your day?
A: Every morning, I eat a candlelit breakfast with my partner. Most days we make banana pancakes and drink a cup of coffee whilst observing Hackney Marshes through our living room window. It means we have to wake up slightly earlier, but it makes such a huge difference on my stress levels and mood. This moment of the day is sacred.

Q: What everyday rituals do you practice to improve your overall well-being?
A: I do gua sha, face yoga and dry brushing every single morning. It doesn’t happen every day, but I try to implement some form of movement and stretching too around 4 times a week. In periods where I don’t have as much time to exercise as I would like, it really affects my mood. I become irritated, anxious and get back aches – which shows how important it is for overall wellbeing.
